Package design for delightful Swiss game and book publishers
Swiss game and book publishing company Helvetiq hired me to design packaging, cards, and instructions for three games in the style of matchboxes. Seeing as I admired their sense of playfulness, their illustrations, and strong design sensibilities, I was thrilled to be a part of this project! After being briefed on the game concept, I worked through initial comps and color palettes. I then built out the full design and layout of all of the boxes, cards, and instructions (in 4 languages!). Finally, I prepared everything for print.
The design overall is simple, clean, and playful. Each game has its own color palette—each bright and friendly, but with a vintage touch. The patterns on the box sides and card tops are akin to those found on the sides of actual matchboxes. As a special touch, those patterns are also embossed.
Game night with friends is one of my absolute favorite pastimes. These are the perfect addition to your collection—great to play with adults and kids alike. They can be found in shops worldwide (…in fact, I’ve personally ran into them ~ and completely freaked out ~ at the Leopold Art Museum shop in Vienna, Austria… and the Barnes and Noble in Baton Rouge, LA!)
