The NPR Calendar

File Under : Save the Date
Year after year, this project was one of my favorites. I had my hand in all aspects of it, from art direction, to layout and design, to project management.
Each annual NPR Calendar featured thirteen images created for NPR by talented artists who are also loyal listeners. With their creations, the artists answered the question, “What does NPR mean to you?” This truly made it a calendar by the listener, for the listener.
Artists from over the years that I was lucky enough to work with on this project include Jessica Hische, Josh Cochran, Rich Tu, Chris Buzelli, Jing Wei, Daniel Fishel, and The Heads of State--amongst so many other talents. Many of the illustrators won awards from the Society of Illustrators for their pieces.
I would pride myself on my organizational skills around this project: it was a 6-month ordeal, and not only did I work to find each set of illustrators and lay out the calendar itself, I worked with the printers, our legal department who helped with the artists’ contracts, our copywriters and fact checkers (both the NPR Communications team and the NPR Librarians), and the NPR Shop and Member Stations team to distribute them. With careful project management, we always made our deadlines!
